Who knew jazz could be good?

Along his extended compositional career, Mingus has delivered a long term relationship with his audience, not just on his incredible live endeavours, but also on his in-studio work that remains until today, some of the best jazz material ever. His ever-laboured efforts and commitment to composing were a trademark of his artistic individuality, and often resulted in brillant outputs. His methodical and painstaking process peaked with The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, a feat of its own. In ... read more

Only finally *understood* this one on a long road trip, on my own. Never looked back. This is the record that got me into Jazz music and it's fantastic the whole way through. This record is frenetic, it's heavy, it's meandering, and it's groovy as hell if you let it be.

As someone just breaking into the genre, I found this a flawless example of what I ought to be looking for in a prefect jazz album..
