AllMusic

Oddisee's keen ear for both vocal and melodic hooks becomes something of a test, a challenge even, to divide those who critically analyze and those who just want to hear a good beat.

The Iceberg ultimately delivers a rich yet digestible musical main course worth more than one helping. If you've been sleeping on Odd, it's time to wake up.

HipHopDX

This musically diverse Hip Hop package will provide a suitable soundtrack for those who still prefer their rap iced-out with depth.

At the end of the day, Oddisee is smart. This project doesn’t sound like its straight from a 1990’s DJ Premier starter kit; there’s a fresh energy that shines through as soon as you press play.

Pitchfork

The latest from the D.C. rapper is a focused beam of live-band and hip-hop soul that rattles loudly in our present political moment.

Washington D.C. rapper/producer, Oddisee has a made a name as a talented producer in his previous works, most notably the 2015 album The Good Fight, in this album Oddisee does not slow down with the sounds in the production with very lively but not “happy” production. The production on this album is very vivid, with most the songs having layers of funk, jazz, horns, bass, guitars, and many other live instruments. It gives it a very colorful vibe sounding like the production was ... read more

It's a solid album for sure. Oddisee's lyricism has only been getting better and better, everything connects here besides a few songs about relationships which I just can't get into. He's experimenting with his flow more, and topics include digging a little deeper into his back story and childhood, as well as current issues like racism, religious extremism and Trump. The beats have a good amount of funky licks and even some disco and Carribbean inspired grooves to them. Despite all that ... read more

Oddisee continues to be a much more compelling producer than he is a rapper imo, always thought his vocals left quite a bit to be desired on his previous releases and this is unfortunately no different on The Iceberg. There are times on this album where as a rapper, he legitimately impresses me. For example on the song Like Really, he manages to come through with a lot of likeable charisma here and his flows were very upbeat and enjoyable too. So it's moments like this that make it clear that ... read more

A produção, entretanto, é o real ponto alto do disco. Trazendo a instrumentação mais acústica do R&B/Jazz ... read more
