CRITIC REVIEWS

80
AllMusic

A listening experience that trades in the distant, narrative-driven opaqueness of Admiral Fell Promises and Among the Leaves for a newfound inclusivity that suits both parties.

Paste

At first glance, a collaboration doesn’t appear obvious, but it ends up being tremendously worthwhile.

Pitchfork

Perils from the Sea may not be a seamless collaboration, but neither artist has sounded so purposeful in his reverie in years.

Consequence of Sound

If you’re at all familiar with Kozelek’s work with Sun Kil Moon (or his earlier work with Red House Painters), or familiar with Lavalle’s records as Album Leaf, Perils From the Sea offers exactly zero surprises.

Beautiful and understated - an album that doesn't fail to please but rarely rises above. A notable exception: You Missed My Heart certainly rises above.
