Relentless is a masterly achievement, tasting of truth.

The Telegraph
It’s amazing that, despite regular albums, The Pretenders haven’t had a top 20 LP for almost three decades. This album will surely change that. Contrary to what Hynde says, she clearly cares about rock and roll. Relentlessly so.

Mojo

Surely Relentless is how Chrissie Hynde always wanted the Pretenders to sound.

80
AllMusic

The Pretenders and Chrissie Hynde have more or less been interchangeable titles since the late '80s; at this point, a Pretenders album is whatever she says it is and Relentless is a good one.

80
The Arts Desk

Nearly half a century since their debut, Relentless proves that Chrissie Hynde’s Pretenders can still be the talk of the town.

musicOMH
The title of their 12th studio album is appropriate for the sound of a band constantly moving forward and refusing to submit to the dying of the light.

The Line of Best Fit

Though time and age threaten to push one towards a reluctant retirement, it’s clear Hynde’s not giving in any time soon. Furthermore, as Relentless only adds to their great legacy, perhaps Hynde’s prime isn't as far behind as she once believed, but lingers just over the near horizon.

80
Uncut
She has crooned before, but the freight of intimate emotion here, letting low notes waver within the ferally alive arrangement, is masterful. Ending an album of looking back, this is the new prime of Chrissie Hynde.
80
American Songwriter
Even on slower material, like the teary closing six-minute ballad “I Think About You Daily” featuring stressed, experimental strings arranged by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, Hynde injects so much riveting emotion that few will be disappointed.
80
The Observer
The interplay between Chrissie Hynde and guitarist James Walbourne goes from strength to strength on the punk survivors’ 12th album.
70
The Irish Times

Whatever Hynde had been missing before Walbourne came along was debatable, but since his arrival the Pretenders’ batteries have been recharged.

70
PopMatters

The title Relentless encourages expectations of a youthful, hard-rock Pretenders album, but it’s dominated by lost-love ballads and slow-burn confessionals.

First song does not sound like it belongs on this album tbh. Pretty alright album though if a little slow for my liking at times.
