Each track on Sprain’s masterstroke sophomore record The Lamb As Effigy opens with a genealogy of sound unbeholden to what tortured entity it will grow into.

The elements are there, but the wool is too thick and needs some shaving. So no, I wonโ€™t sacrifice this lamb in ritualistic fashion โ€“ I pet it on the head and give it a thumbs up, which will likely alienate the lamb, but some ice cream and sunshine should alleviate all that.

GODDAMN... THIS IS SOME UNNERVING SHIT RIGHT HERE!!

So word of mouth has been spreading about newcomers Sprain, a noise-rock band based in Los Angeles. Their singles have been receiving high praise on RYM and I've been told about their material being something I have to check out, but considering their debut album was releasing soon, it's best to go in blind and experience everything in one sitting.

My god, what a piece.

Post-rock, noise rock and drone fusion Sprain has given us a second album. And it is a force to be reckoned with. With its upsetting themes, dark and eerie atmosphere and harsh vocals and instrumentals, this album takes you on a 96 minute dystopian journey. And it’s absolutely jaw dropping.
