With Deb Demure's eccentric imagination and exquisite attention to detail, the Demonstration is the strongest effort to date from Drab Majesty. Like a student of great melancholic sounds like Cocteau Twins, Sisters of Mercy, and Clan of Xymox, the template uses familiar textures in a way that refuses to regurgitate the past. The Demonstration is a brooding and beautiful work of art. The production is ambient and crystalline. The songs are thought-provoking and explore themes of loss, sacrifice, devotion to a higher purpose and its conflict with every day realities. This is somber music for those who dwell in the shadows of contemplation.
