Classic punk is usually hit or miss for me. While the politically-charged lyrics of '70s and '80s punk rock is always something that I admire and think is very well-executed, I've just never been able to get past the sound. 'Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables' is the debut album from perhaps one of the most important American Punk bands to ever grace this earth, the Dead Kennedys. Hardcore Punk is a genre that I've only really scratched the surface of and I'd imagine that the Dead Kennedys would be a band that everyone would point you towards to get started, and it's easy to why that's the case because despite the grit and political frustration this album heavily displays it's honestly quite fun and accessible. ... read more

Insanely good.

Witty, relevant, and inventive. Calling it "Hardcore Punk" is almost doing it a disservice as nothing sounds like this. Jello is a one of a kind vocalist, and the compositions are tight and wild at the same time. DK's influence is all over the place, from bands like RATM, SOAD, and even artists like Mr. Bungle and Faith No More. This is an essential punk album.
