Dead Kennedys are known as one of the defining bands in punk music, especially for their political lyricism which was often satirical in nature which left them to be subjected to controversies in their career that led to some stores refusing to stock their records.

Classic punk is usually hit or miss for me. While the politically-charged lyrics of '70s and '80s punk rock is always something that I admire and think is very well-executed, I've just never been able to get past the sound. More times than not, I've found that bands like Sex Pistols tend to just perform the same song instrumentally over and over again and act like different lyrics would make it a different song. Amazing for many reasons, you can TASTE the punk from the first to last song, Jello (Singer) absolutely blows punk out the water with his performance, from mocking Jerry Brown (California Uber Alles) to it's best single in my eyes. (Holiday in Cambodia) You can hear the energy in his voice when singing. With it's jarring and unfiltered lyrics you can tell these guys put their heart and soul into their debut album with ZERO interference from any high paying labels! Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables is a great showcase of punk music that is political but this doesn't distract from the quality of the record.
This album is only 14th tracks and contains a catchy and rhythmic sound of 80s punk that to this day is fresh.
It's nice to hear great records from this genre after blink-182 or even worse Machine Gun Kelly.
Instrumentally this record could sound pretty repetitive to me but overall this is one of ... read more
