Yeah...nothing to see here. This is a band without much of an identity producing some uninteresting Gothic Rock. The instrumentals sound incredibly touched-up, the chord changes lack any kind of punch and, in general, this album has no energy. The instrumental layering concepts of this album are not bad, but, all the same, are not memorable. Good mix of post punk and ghotic music. Every track has an interesting idea. But they wasn't fully disclosed.
Very dark, gothic, and experimental, yet so dull and uninteresting. Nothing in Garlands makes me want to go back to it. At least they'd go on to make some of the best dream-pop records in existence.

Unlike many, I consider Garlands to be one of the more interesting of the Cocteau Twins discography, holding a unique place due to it's more gothic, post-punk sound than anything they would come after, as this sound is soon abandoned for a more dream pop sound. Despite my love of this, I can see the flaws of the similar tracks and almost generic similarities, as if they didn't go far enough in developing these cuts.
