Vessels, in many ways, shows a band of increased maturity, talent, and songwriting. With a clear improvement of production overall, each song sounds fluid and smooth when compared to their past releases.
Vessel is a lively, energetic, pulsing collection of candy-coated big-budget pop with just enough personality to make it more engaging than a large percentage of other groups out there at the moment doing something similar.
This album is actually unlistenable compared to Trench. The ideas are better than Blurryface, but at least BF had interesting sounds. This album is just shitty stock synths and awful sing/rapping that is honestly not much better than people who copy it.
Edit (original many years ago was like a 7, now it is a 2): This thing ages worse and worse with every passing year.

pretty overhated by the hipster crowds. I just take this as alternative pop that combines genres but isn't meant to be so special or experimental. While there are definitely low points, some bops make it up for them.

Many songs on this record are saved solely because of their catchy choruses, especially when paired with these awful rap verses. The production is mostly tolerable, except for moments like the EDM breakdown on "Car Radio", which is the most soulless and pretentious song on here. "House of Gold" was a cute moment though. Overall, this somehow reminds me of Coldplay, except for most of the good stuff and with an occasional focus on their worst musical instincts. "Guns For ... read more
The only reason any of these songs have points is because this album does a really good job at tricking me into liking their catchy ass choruses to try and get me to ignore the rest of the shitty parts of the songs. There are a couple of exceptions and shining moments on here but those are far and few between.
