Personally I’m rarely a fan of 100% instrumental popular music (Rock, R&B etc..). It's a very difficult art to master in this case, which I don't often find up to the task, because originally all these musical genres were created with lyrics because they are very important. This was made in the 60's!? It sounds like I remember it so clearly but this is only my first time listening. Ignoring stuff like the fact a lot of these moments were sampled, this sounds like pop culture distilled. When I first heard Mo' Onions I thought I switched over to listening to some video game's soundtrack somehow. Like it was a shopkeeper's theme.

This just sounds so.....modern. Even in it's retro parts it sounds like the nostalgic type of retro. Like a Tarantino film.
Green Onions is a frustrating album. Outside of the iconic title track, there's little in the way of standout material to be found here. Not to say everything else is terrible, but this thing devolves into by-the-numbers Rhythm Blues/Soul tracks rather quickly. It's a shame that this feels like a 'grab and go' type album, as in you'll love the title track because it's physically impossible not to, but little else is likely to stick in your brain. It's fun, it's a little goofy, it's something to vibe along with. As far as instrumental soul goes I think Green Onions succeeds pretty greatly.
