Slaves’ Graves and Ballads is filled to the brim with orchestral instrumentation, managing to sound equally abrasive and subdued. There are quite a few beautiful ballads present throughout, but the uncomfortably poor vocal recording and mixing tends to take the listener out of a few tracks. I’m not sure if this was done on purpose (I’m sure it was), but I think the album would have benefited from toning it back a little.
