Swedish doom originators Candlemass gave birth to an instant classic with their debut, Epicus Doomicus Metalicus. But their 1987 follow-up Nightfall managed to break even more new ground by introducing the operatic bellowing of new vocalist Messiah Marcolin, whose religious lyrics found the perfect match in the slow, grinding power chords written by bassist Leif Edling.

Another monumental installment in their catalog, following a masterpiece such as Epicus Doomicus Metallicus with another masterpiece of the same level with both highlights and downsights in comparison, as I felt that their debut had a better guitar playing and a lot of focus in that mind-bending guitar tone, I loved to death Messiah's vocal delivery and the overall songwriting this ... read more
