Could call this summery dream pop I guess? Plenty nice ballads on here. Very focused on the choruses I feel but she is putting together pretty, catchy and very elegantly sung tracks. Much like Born to Die it's what she does too much of rather than not enough of that weighs the album down. There's a little bit of that tacky 'adlibbery' on this one that was very prominent on the followup. "Lana Del Ray a.k.a. Lizzy Grant" is a great debut, but the album has some cracked moments. Most of the songs are emotional and it really warms my heart.

One of the weirdest listens in my whole life. Its almost a concept album. Very, very interesting.

This is weird... Obviously Lana was still figuring out her style, and creating her own lane and this Lizzy album though might follow similar cinematic themes and song structures as Lana's later work, it's a good description of who she was then.

Kill Kill displays her mysterious yet captivating persona as she sings these really weird lyrics about loving a dying man. Of course, like almost all of Lana's music, she challenges the listener to figure out what she's actually saying. It's very groovy ... read more
