CRITIC REVIEWS

91
Pretty Much Amazing

The balance of synth-driven buoyancy and emotional distance, in adherence with Jewel’s meticulous attention to detail, allows the compilation to evade the fate of becoming a requiem.

The 405

After Dark 2 is an incredible achievement, it has surpassed its superb predecessor dramatically and deserves to be lauded as a truly landmark electronic release.

Paste

Mostly, the music works together more than it works to distinguish itself, always pushing movement and progression into the forefront in a sort of peaceful acceptance of chaos and uncertainty.

83
Pitchfork

After Dark 2 plays more like Johnny Jewel & Friends Present... than a compendium of disparate acts. It updates the IDIB sound without losing its buzzy neon charm, which remains a hugely attractive mode.

NME

This state-of-the-label address might not have had a launch party up the Shard, but is every bit an immaculate collection

80
AllMusic

The interchangeability of the songs and artists is one of the best parts of the hypnotic, detached, and ultimately insular sound.

80
PopMatters

After Dark 2 carries some of the best music you’ll find on this or any other planet in the year 2013AD. You’ll dance. You’ll cry. You’ll dance and cry!

Under The Radar

After Dark 2 isn't as good as its precursor, but it comes close.

It's overlong and overstuffed but the italo-pop is too irresistible when the album gets it right. Some songs put you right in film Drive, sitting in the car with Ryan Gosling as he drives along the neon lit streets.

I thank the movie Drive and it's sdtrk to allow me to track this collection down and my new love for the Chromatics.

Really solid collection of really solid songs. A few of these are older tracks, but they work quite nicely here among the newer pieces. Overall, it's a pretty piece of work from all parties involved.
