Like 2023 so far for NCT, ‘Golden Age’ is a mixed bag of fortunes. Luckily for the 20-strong experimental force, though, its pendulum ends up swinging in its favour, its tracks mostly pulling off the things they set out to do.

Boring, bland, uninspired, awful, absolutely annoying, painful to listen to... That's only a few bad words about this album. (I should tell more, but I don't want to waste my time on this.)
Let's be honest, if the most tolerable song is an interlude, that probably shows how bad this album is.
Goofy production, low-effort hooks (Baggy Jeans 💀), forgettable verses — everything about this album it's pretty bad.

For some time I have felt that NCT’s music has been changing for the worse. Possibly one of the worst albums of the year, NCT regresses into incredibly boring territory and sound downright stale in their fourth full group album, "Golden Age".
If "EMPATHY" and "Resonance P.2" showed the group in an upward musical trend, "Universe" and now "Golden Age" show the resulting steep downward trend as NCT dissolves any and all forms of cohesion and musical forethought into making bland, disjointed songs that fit neither the neo ... read more

The recurring issue I have right now with the music from SM artists, not just NCT, is that they are releasing SO MUCH material that it somehow detriments the quality of their songs through the years. I'm mostly talking about their B-sides because some of the artists' title tracks do still slap from time to time, like Red Velvet's Feel My Rhythm and, in this album, NCT's Baggy Jeans. It's just the B-sides that are frustrating me, man.
There will be more comebacks this year from SM artists for sure, and I bet the other NCT units will have full albums again. But I don't know if the B-sides would reach the amazing quality of Neo Zone and Resonance again; if it doesn't, I'm not going to be surprised.
