From "My poetry is deep, I never fell"

One of Nas more underrated albums. It delivers on most tracks, although not as well as his other albums.
I like Nas's concept of a double album that shows his transition from a hood-dwelling gangster to a rich, married man, but it's unfortunately spread a little too thin to recognise the full quality of. Across 25 tracks, he tries new sounds that don't work out and retreats to old ones with varied results from good to average. Pretty enjoyable, but it goes on for far too long. if Nas kept doing the Illmatic album covers, this album would be the worst thing ever! There's a handful of songs that I like here, but nothing super special. Apparently this is a concept album, but I wouldn't have been able to tell you on my first, OR second listen. I like Thief's Theme quite a bit, mainly 'cause it references a line in Illmatic. I just thought that was cool.
