Distorted Sound
None of this should work together – but it does, because The Callous Daoboys have such a tight handle on their songwriting, and an unshakeable belief in the brilliance of absurdity.

The post-hardcore-esque jam is entirely simplistic in nature compared to what they’ve done, which comes off somewhat conflicting.

I don't think this band benefitted from the cleaner production in the slightest. They were never the heaviest band out there, but there was enough rawness to their sound that still gave them teeth. On this EP, everything sounds squeaky clean, and it really takes the punch out of each of these tracks. I also don't find them as fun or creative as the tracks on their albums. It just sounds like a watered down version of the same shitck. Not bad, but I'm really hoping their next album is better.

in my eyes, God Smiles Upon the Callous Daoboys just acts as the first teaser for LP3, and if it’s gonna sound like this, i’m super excited. it’s a little less chaos than i like from TCD, though. there’s ton of groovy slams, like “Waco Jesus” is just THE song. also, really fucking with the pulses. feature!!!! the vocals just the feel so good (and the saxophone too… crazy)

Even though it was short, each track had its own distinct sound and style to it. “Pushing The Pink Envelope” sounded similar to a track off of their album “Celebrity Therapist,” which I thought was great album. The track “Waco Jesus” sounded pretty unique from what I’ve heard from the band in terms of repeated sections sounding different each time they return. The last track, “Designer ... read more

It goes pretty crazy a very solid and short EP from a band that is continuing to improve.

If this is an indication of what their third album sounds like, I'm very, very excited.

This was really an amazing listen. I honestly just wish it was longer, and it’s an EP so I know I shouldn’t dock points for that but there just wasn’t as much to judge which is why it gets the lower score. Phenomenal EP though.
