Its impossible to not compare A Thousand Leaves with the epic (for different reasons) albums that its sandwiched between. Washing Machine was 3 years before and the widely loathed (thanks P4K) NYC Ghosts came after. So this record gets lost in the shuffle, which sucks bc it's got some of the bands best experimentation from the 90s. Its for sure on the lower tier of SY albums but it's still pretty great in its own right.

Before I listened to "A Thousand Leaves," a quick glance at their Wikipedia page made me worried. According to the page for this album, "A Thousand Leaves" was the first album by Sonic Youth recorded in their own studio. I thought this could go one of two ways:

1. The band goes back to their earliest inclinations on their first albums, which always sounded to me like the band screwing around and experimenting, without any editing whatsoever. Or
