Maturity is an interesting concept in hip hop, a genre that tends to thrive on the immature and unhinged aspect of human nature. Whether it be Kanye introducing an orchestra on Late Registration or Eminem cutting back on his use of gay slurs on The Eminem Show, rappers will be at odds with maturity until the end of time. Even the most unhinged, screwball, druggy loser maniacs will have to grow up one day, and it's up to them to decide what change they want to bring in for the rest of their ... read more

The word I see used the most to describe this album is “mature”, and compared to this last album, it certainly is. I mean, compare Fatlip’s verse on 4 Better Or 4 Worse to his verse on Runnin'. Truly a crazy evolution to say the least. Bizzare Ride II The Pharcyde was fun, quirky, crazy, energetic, and showcased just a bunch of men in their early 20s being themselves, and it was absolutely fantastic.

The Pharcyde pull back their high energy hooligans, and instead rap smoothly over lo-fi beats, some of which are brought to you by none other than J Dilla. This album is a little over an hour in length, meaning it does drag every so often. These guys are still spitting fantastic bars, and flowing river-like, but this is definitely a couple pegs short of their debut, and the next 2 records aren't looking so good either. Either way, great album, worth a listen or two (≧∀≦)ゞ

Such a fucking chill album, super underrated and imo very close to bizzare ride 2

Way more mature than their previous effort, but the music is just as good. No album with Dilla production credits is a bad project.

polished, mature and clearly massively overlooked by critics.

when people talk about album flow this is what they mean. nearly every track acts as a prelude to the following song either sonically or conceptually, usually both. labcabincalifornia tells a timeless story with no weak moments to speak of, while containing some all-time great tracks like Runnin’ and Moment In Time.
