Petrol station bargain rack pap with added “legs out for my big country daddy” album cover appeal.
So... This is the first modern american album I've listened to properly. Given the genre's reputation in the UK, I wasn't totally sure what to expect but I had heard good things about Kacey which is why I wanted to start by listening to her. Overall I found the album to be pretty decent. Her vocals are pretty good here and the production is fine. The lyrics are pretty silly and not anything special though. Favorite tracks are Silver Lining, Merry Go 'Round and Back On The Map.

Remember buying this when it came out, remember traveling by car for 3 days with two 11 years old girls in the back and this was the only record we could agree on and we sang along and only stopped when they or I fell asleep. With a soft voice and an instrumental full of details of the country genre, Kacey Musgraves delivered a beautiful debut album, with compositions talking about love, social criticism, points of view and positivity.
