CRITIC REVIEWS

NME

Coldplay don’t just churn out anthems. On their surprise-filled new EP, they test the waters and see what floats.

70
AllMusic

Within these five tracks, Coldplay touch upon various contemporary trends in EDM, R&B, and rock without abandoning their identity, and thereby they are fleet and clever, not relics.

70
Prefix

Just like the album that it’s been described as a companion piece to, Kaleidoscope is something of a mixed bag which offers little clues as to where Coldplay will go next.

70
Rolling Stone

Titled after a soothing interlude from the band's 2015 LP, A Head Full of Dreams, this five-song EP continues that album's mood of tranquil satisfaction.

60
The Guardian

This EP is nothing but on-brand, however; euphoric emotion, an earnest, universal message and a coating of tacky charm.

58
Pitchfork

Held up by two good-to-great songs, the lightweight EP is Coldplay’s first release in years that feels more like a clearing of the throat than a new, distinct statement.

50
PopMatters

Kaleidoscope EP is one of those EPs with no mission statement, a collection of oddities that never would have fit on the unfailingly upbeat (if shallow) A Head Full of Dreams. There’s no story to be told, just a small collection of tunes, some of which work beautifully, some of which fall utterly flat.

10
Tiny Mix Tapes

The release’s awkward format and patronizing presentation are among the least of its poor qualities: Even for the heads, Kaleidoscope offers very little not already heard elsewhere.

Tracks like A L I E N S and Hypnotised are a step in the right direction but except for these tracks there is absolutely nothing interesting about this EP.

Fav tracks: A L I E N S, Hypnotised

Least fav tracks: Miracles, The Chainsmokers remix thing whatever

“All I can think about is you” is great but the rest is either okay (A L I E N S,miracles, hypnotized) or awful (you know the one) so as a whole it’s like a 45 sorry coldplay I can’t defend this one this time
