Bar Italia’s ambition and scope seems to increase exponentially with each passing release, and to pull off two great leaps forward in a single year is a hugely impressive feat. This is rich, idiosyncratic music that’s too wild and strange to copy.

‘The Twits’ is a dynamic, evocative, and overall pretty cool album. With unexpected twists and turns, there’s a dark grunginess throughout which makes it feel like it could be the soundtrack to some sort of noir film.

In short, it’s a lot of music from a band that loves to play indifferent. But you can tell bar italia care deeply, at the very least from their prolificness. They’ve got the passion, the attitude, the musical chemistry. They just needs to shake off a bit of that coolness and flaunt it.

Such is the level of mystique that you wonder if we’ll hear from them for years now, or they’ll have another LP out in the Spring. The not knowing is the best bit. It’s at once pre-Internet and social media nostalgic and a black hole in the over sharing of the Tik Tok now. Refreshing.

The boy/girl vocals of Nina Cristante and Jezmi Tarik Fehmi – the latter of whom can sound uncannily like Robert Smith – dovetail nicely, though a sense remains that Bar Italia are a work in progress.

We’ve got post punk vibes, girl/guy vocals, jangly guitars, y’allternative sway and even some 90s nods and light shoegaze fuzz. Every piece of the current indie rock puzzle (that with each passing day is feeling more and more played out) is here on display but filtered through a sound that is their own. Not sure if it’s a full step up from their other 2023 album but it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
The random capitalization of the song titles kind of makes me wanna jump out a window (it’s okay this is a pretty good album)
bar italia’s newsest record doesn’t hit quite as hard as Tracey Denim for me, but there are still some nice duel vocals and smooth vibes. I honestly don’t have too much to say about it, but worlds greatest emoter and Jelsy are pretty swag

At what point do you begin to enjoy "The Twits"?
You don't. Things just happen. There's no sort of song sequencing on this, it's all just there. Something about bar italia is that they play instruments at the same time and out comes some miraculous noise called music, but the music doesn't really sound all that well put together.
