God Is in the TV

Number 1 Angel manages to strike a balance of the sounds Charli has succeeded at in the past whilst still taking risks. She’s fused the dark 90s R&B of True Romance with the fiery attitude of Sucker and presented it as a concise and rewarding 10 track.

The 405

It may not hit the mark every time, but her adventurous, unapologetic approach to driving pop forwards to exciting new ground should be praised.

Tiny Mix Tapes

It’s tempting, too easy, to slide Number 1 Angel in as an inevitable Charli release, impossible accessible, unable to hear too much of — the pop for us, the pop wanting itself.

GIGsoup

With XCX‘s contributions of undeniably catchy melodies, belting hooks and recognizable vocal arrangements – she’s managed to turn the PC Music genre on it’s head from an intense and divisive nature and bring it confidently into the mainstream.

Pretty Much Amazing
Aitchison intelligently pairs her clever lyrics against beats that push genres outward, her filling in the spaces with her hooks and gigantic personality.

Rolling Stone

Angel makes this pioneering human-hologram marriage seem far more natural and cohesive than on Vroom. The beats aren't as abrasive, her vocals are distended in ways that are disorienting but not jarring.

70
Crack Magazine

Number 1 Angel succeeds in pulling the listener into their saccharine-sweet hooks and quick-changing dynamics.

The Needle Drop
Charli XCX continues to turn pop on its head with PC Music's best producers.

Pitchfork

You could see all this as camaraderie: Charli, having sorta made it, helping others catch up. But the cost is hearing one of pop’s most vibrant young personalities consistently, disappointingly upstaged.

"Number 1 Angel" is the fourth album/mixtape of London's Charlotte Aitchison, better known as Charli XCX, and this new project confirms three things:

1 - Charli knows how to surround herself well.

2 - Charli is the queen of pop of this decade.

3 - Charli knows she is the queen of pop of this decade.

After an excellent EP in 2016 produced by SOPHIE, it is A.G. Cook who take over for "Number 1 Angel". And the touch of A.G. Cook (the boss of PC Music) is really special. ... read more

Charli continues to develop her new sound by working with a few of the PC Music label's greats. The production certainly doesn't disappoint, complementing Charli's pop songwriting extremely well. Her lyrics aren't anything special, but the infectious hooks make up for it. Also, the CupcakKe feature is just glorious!
