A.V. Club

You Only Live 2wice functions as an absolute firehose of dazzlingly dense verses—it’s hard to imagine him going for much longer than its 30 minutes, though you know he could—as well as a showcase for some of the strange new ground he’s charting.

XXL

The fact that Freddie Gibbs created You Only Live 2wice as a concise, to-the-point body of work without fillers and ultimately for a greater purpose than just simply rapping makes it one of, if not the, strongest installment in his catalog thus far.

Exclaim!

Mechanically, the hooks that adorned Shadow of a Doubt are largely absent, though Gibbs' increased attention to melody that was displayed on the aforementioned 2015 LP remains.

HipHopDX

Relieved to be home with a fresh resolve to be a responsible father figure to his daughter, some could say Gibbs hurried to have his voice heard again, thus risking tainting his solid reputation for consistency. But ultimately, this latest material offers up a chance at sinner’s redemption.

Pitchfork

Gibbs is in full command of his weathered voice and persona, and though its runtime may be short, You Only Live 2wice is a brief showcase of the Indiana rapper at his hardest and most haunting.

The 405

You Only Lie 2wice is a reflection of past mistakes, a declaration of dreams for his family’s future and a time stamp for the strenuous reality of an artist who nearly lost it all on his way to gaining it all.

Paste

For many people, enjoying this record will probably depend upon the rapper’s performance of penance ... Gibbs lost it for four months, and every line on this album is haunted by that loss. Some sentences never end.

The Needle Drop

Freddie Gibbs makes a rushed return with You Only Live 2wice.

NR
Freddie Gibbs delivers 6 great tracks at the start of the project, but the overall experience is slightly sullied by the weak 7th track and the average closer.

All the intrigued I had for him was lost after Freddie Gribbs dropped this.

GLORY BE TO GOD WHATS HATTNIN PIMPS

I wish more of the songs were like 20 Karat Jesus. But once again with Freddie, the highs are so high they help the project out. Still there could be a little more depth on some of the lows.

fave tracks: 20 Karat Jesus, Alexys, Crushed Glass

A disappointing departure from his streak of amazing to good records. :-(
