After invoking Our Holy Spirit of Not Reading The Comments and just listening to Witness with open ears and hearts, Booker’s music emerges as defiant, insightful and both intimately and communally self-actualizing.

AllMusic

This aural variety alone would make Witness an exciting record but when these sounds are paired with probing political and personal songs, the album becomes something fresh and vital.

70
Under The Radar

That the repetition eventually grates only goes to show how high Booker can reach at his best. Witness gets there enough to make it worth anyone's time.

Exclaim!

Drawing from his experiences growing up as a black man in America's South, Witness strikes an emotional chord in illustrating the charged emotions that swirl around the very real concept of systemic racism and subsequent fallout.

60
The Skinny
At the centre of everything is Booker’s raspy vocal delivery, and therein lies the record’s central contradiction – the lush arrangements are lovely, but they too often threaten to suffocate that remarkably raw voice. There’s a balance to be struck, and Booker’s not quite there yet – maybe next time.
60
The Independent

Important issues, dealt with on Witness via a musical palette drawing equally from blues, punk and T. Rex.

60
The Guardian
The consistent thread is Booker’s raw electric guitar, and while there’s perhaps too much going on for it all to hang together all the time, he’s happiest at his simplest.

found him on KEXP. Echoes of roots blues, garage-punk and glam rock à là Bolan. Great voice, also. Wow!
