A fantastic first half with songs like Levon and Tiny Dancer which are at this point essential with Elton John's discography but the second half loses some steam and often doesn't stand out compared to the mentioned songs but at last this for me is still a great record with a lot of very good melodic piano pop rock.

Elton John’s, “Madman Across the Water” shows some of the best of Elton and the worst of Elton. The album was solid at the start and by the end, I felt bored and uninspired but relaxed and in a good mood. The album is what I call, “Sunday Morning Rock” as in its the music you hear before church. It’s a relaxing soft rock album that has really good piano parts and the masterpiece of a song called “Tiny Dancer”

Both a positive and a negative, there is clearly a theme to Elton John's music. The tracks have a similar structure and the mixture of rock and piano backing are consistent across records. Three records in, there is minimal variation among the artists music. This is not necessarily a bad thing (if it isn't broken don't fix it) but it doesn't leave much room to really see a huge improvement on the next few records looking forward.
