It is intensely listenable, bearing the drama of a rock opera without the pomp or ridiculousness, and the brazen confidence of the rock star without the showmanship.

A.V. Club

Moore’s most concise, most satisfying solo statement, anchored by a band that’s become an integral part of its expression.

Clash

This is the sound of a questing spirit pushing at the parameters of unlimited freedom, a hand reaching out to grasp infinity and not falling far short.

80
The Independent

Thurston Moore has created one of the cornerstone works of his entire career with Rock N Roll Consciousness.

80
Drowned in Sound

It’s a body of work that exists apart from Moore’s previous output, dedicating itself to new ideas and the exploration of how he fits within them.

GIGsoup

“Rock N Roll Consciousness” is that rare artifact – a virtuoso guitar album that it’s actually cool to own.

Pitchfork

Thurston Moore’s new solo LP evokes the hippie leanings that were always at the heart of Sonic Youth. With some of his most joyous lyrics to date, Moore uses outer aggression to achieve inner bliss.

PopMatters

With Rock n Roll Consciousness Moore sticks with the same lineup as his previous album, digs into his old, central sound, and finds success in both the consistency and newness.

AllMusic

Another fine addition to his solo work, Rock N Roll Consciousness proves that Moore's search for enlightenment through noise remains vital.

70
No Ripcord

A sense of rejuvenation fills Thurston Moore on Rock N’ Roll Consciousness.

60
The Skinny

Rock n Roll Consciousness feels deep and multilayered, the kind of record you want to spend some time with, a piece of art that will continue to change and shift as you engage with it.

Hypnotizing masterpiece as always. But leaving "Cease Fire" off the LP is something I can't understand, though. Maybe it's too loud and punk-esque to be featured on it.
