CRITIC REVIEWS

80
AllMusic

Shake the Shudder is the work of a band that know exactly what works for them, while still being willing to try new things.

80
Northern Transmissions
Despite their near-twenty year existence of making records, the band’s youthful energy remains.
73
Pitchfork

More than any other !!! record before it, Shake the Shudder finds Offer riffing off a rotating cast of guest vocalists. And they provide the band with multiple pivot points to explore different directions.

70
God Is in the TV

This an album choc full of talent, mixed with the occasional quality guest vocal and the result is a confident, rapturous joy of an album which will leave you aching from smiling too much.

70
Exclaim!

The songs are short and punchy, and nod to the anything-goes attitude that pervaded the jams sessions from which they were born.

70
musicOMH
This is music whose first principle is to make you move, and from the off they deliver on that promise.
60
Drowned in Sound

Maybe !!!’s latest effort isn’t revolutionary, but it is rebellious.

58
A.V. Club

There’s no reason not to throw on Shake The Shudder and dance it out, but like many fun-yet-hazy late nights, it doesn’t leave much of an impression afterward.

40
Under The Radar

Shake the Shudder is less of an improvement and more of a decline. But while there is nothing really special about it, there is nothing really that bad either, it's just disappointing.

40
The Skinny

It’s unfortunate, but this awkward inconsistency makes Shake The Shudder reminiscent of a night out where, at half past 11, you realise that Red Stripe does in fact taste like shite, and you'd be better off tucked up in bed listening to Spotify.

30
Clash
'Shake The Shudder' is basically a terrible party bag: previous experience suggests that it should be full to the brim with party-poppers, balloons and dangerously sugary sweets but, in reality, all it contains is a few loose crayons and a small bar of vegan chocolate.
