Dear Idles, I fucking love you too.

Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for THIS album? Not this album specifically, but this type of album? The left curve, not anything you have been expecting, but everything you need sort of album? Do you know how long i’ve been waiting for something this out there from, of all bands, IDLES? This is an Idles album with strings. Fucking Strings!

Some Context to those uninformed: Idles, comprising of course of Joe Talbot on vocals, Adam ... read more

This new album from IDLES is quite the switchup in a new sound that offers an admirable step in a promising direction whilst still remaining true to their rock roots of their earlier material to a certain extent.

Admittedly, it's a surprise to see a slightly laidback edge to the British band, and it can likely take some time to get used to if you're accustomed to their earlier works, like some of the slower tracks that are rooted in an art rock sound.

"IDEA 01" demonstrates that ... read more

This is my first exposure to a full record from IDLES. Didn’t really know what I was getting myself into with this one, but MAN I really loved what I heard from this. The vocals are insane, the production on this shit is great, and all of the performances are just so fun and engaging across the 40 min runtime. This album 100% makes me want to listen to more of IDLES stuff, cause this has p much everything I look for in post-punk nowadays. Thrilling as all hell album, def worth a ... read more

In general, IDLES have not recorded their best album yet, but they keep the high bar that they raised at the beginning of their work, including thanks to their charisma and artistic intent, they manage to be noticeable.

How are you gonna go from such a hard banger like gratitude straight to monolith? Like do you want me to be dancing or crying right now just pick one. I've seriously never heard a single IDLES song before and I've also never really thought or wondered what they sounded like either. So going in I had absolutely no idea wether I would like this or even what it would sound like. So I didn't really know exactly what to expect. Sure I had seen the user score of their last album being pretty high but ... read more

I'm going to do a deeper dive into IDLES soon, but as far as I've heard and seen, it feels like a complete switch-up from their usual output. Looks like they just want to have fun, y'know?

Highlights: Idea 01, Gift Horse, Roy, Dancer, Grace, Jungle, Attitude

If Kenny Beats is involved in this project, this album will have great rap beats!!11 🔥 🗣️🔥 🗣️

Idles is a British rock band formed in Bristol in 2009. The band consists of Adam Devonshire, who plays bass. Joe Talbot does vocals. Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan play guitar. Jon Beavis does drums. Their debut album, Brutalism, was released in 2017 to critical acclaim. TANGK is the fifth studio album by Idles, released on February 16, 2024. The production on this album is fantastic. Every song on here sounds pretty great. The vocals aren’t always my favorite but they are good most of the time. This is the first IDLES album I’ve listened to but I knew kind of what to expect after seeing it was produced by Nigel Godrich(Radiohead Guy) Him and Kenny Beats do a great job on this album as it sounds great. I think the choruses on here are pretty good as well despite my small issue with the vocals. My favorite tracks are Gift ... read more

Brief Review:

What is it with British people not knowing how to do anything? It's TANK, not TANGK. Learn how to spell 😡

I've been interested in IDLES for quite a while now. While I don't hear about them constantly, I have been hearing some good things about them, and since they released their latest album, TANGK, I thought now was a good time to check them out. However, I did something different. Before I reviewed TANGK, I thought it would be a good idea to listen to their other albums ... read more

NO NUANCE REVIEW

I like Kenny Beats, he makes some good beats, he seems like a nice guy. But every new Idles project that he’s involved in I like a little less than the last one.

How to make an album like IDLES:

1. Make two or three 9/10 and 10/10 songs

2. Fill the rest of the album with the most boring and generic songs known to mankind

3. Release those 10/10 songs as singles

Or you take risks and challenge yourself or you become AC/DC

Music history is flooded with examples of bands deciding to do “something” different than whatever they were successfully doing in their previous albums. And in that regard, Idles left curve has nothing special.

Interestingly enough, every time a band decides to risk and change, there is always a significant amount of square heads that immediately reject the change. In Idles case, even before listening the full album ... read more

'TANGK' is deliberately creative but still maintains the reins of a conventional art rock album, delivering yet another handful of delightful songs to IDLES' catalog, a band that I consider one of the best in recent years. In this specific project, they seem to be exploring the dance-punk side more than the post-punk that used to be the band's main sound, with an incredible feature with LCD Soundsystem. The band's sonic direction is active, incisive, and even strident.

Idk, it’s not an awful listen for sure, but this album runs off as this super long and unexciting.

I mean it’s new music though, so I’m not gonna look the gift horse in the mouth or anything.

This album is kind of underwhelming. You would think that an album by a band that’s considered post punk/hardcore and has an explosion with the title in huge letters as the cover to be very in your face. I had been hearing that it was sort of Radiohead esc but still not what I expected. Definitely going to need to a relisten.

Edit: 81->88 I see the vision! When I first heard this it was on some crappy speakers on a cheap monitor. With how soft this album can get, you kind of ... read more

Not a perfect album from the extensive and prolific rock band IDLES but certainly full of highlights. I think the group has grown a lot since their first work. You can defo hear that progress in the more creative songwriting.

Another factor of this project that sounds like the group have improved as a collective is the emotion and sheer sadness you can feel in some songs. For example in “Jungle”, Joseph sings about the control he has over himself and it personally touched me enough ... read more

Some kind of a wasted opportunity because on occasion I can appreciate the quality of Talbot's voice operating outside of his usual punk mode - producer Godrich was right, it is interesting hearing him sing in a more conventional fashion...but a lot of these songs just aren't quite right.

Perhaps transitional, NR

Wow, those were some crazy projects. Glad that's over with. Hopefully I didn't miss that mu- OH MY FUCKING GOD!!

Idles has been one of the bands I've been wanting to cover on this site a lot. The amount of fans they have since their 2018 album, Joy as an Act of Resistance, is fucking crazy. Like most newbies, I wanted to see what makes them so special to people. So you probably could've imagined how excited I was to hear they have a new album because, if you know me, I've been keeping up with ... read more

After over two years since their last album, UK Post-Punk band IDLES returns with their latest record 'TANGK', a record that they've been building up to for the past few months with the release of singles like 'Dancer' with LCD Soundsystem, as well as 'Grace' and 'Gift Horse', I heard two of these singles prior to hearing the album and to be honest they didn't really leave the greatest impression on me, and as the release date for the new album got closer and closer I was getting worried that ... read more

Boom!!! Kapow!!! Wabam!!!

^ is what you’d think this album would sound like, but no, it’s a mix of that and not that. TANGK is a bit of a weird one in their catalog, and I gotta say I’m a little bit more mixed than normal when it comes to Idles. I actually really enjoyed their previous album Crawler a lot even though some people seemed to not like as much. I still come back to a lot of the songs off that record tho. This one messes with their more subdued sound, and I do fuck ... read more
