He was so sick and tired of the Photoshop so he used MS Paint for the cover.

Unlike Kendrick's last two albums, DAMN. does not have one central idea. TPAB was heavily focused on political and social issues, and GKMC was a concept album that told a story of being an adolescent boy growing up in Compton. And because of this lack of an idea or theme, I think that DAMN. is the perfect balance between the two projects.
There are introspective songs that move along slowly (FEAR.), bangers that retain Kendrick's lyrical excellence (DNA.), and unapologetically commercial ... read more

Kendrick Lamar's fourth studio LP sees the Compton emcee returning to the basics, embracing a much more straight-forward and noticeably much more accessible sound, while reducing the scope of his previous works. It feels redundant to point out 2015's TPAB's incredible ambition and clear artistic vision. Along with 2012's GKMC, that album will go down as one of the most popular and relevant hip-hop albums of all time - deservingly so. So the stakes were naturally high for another Kendrick Lamar ... read more

Old heads have ran out of excuses
Music is moving forward with or without you

Every stone thrown at you rushed in at my feet
Where I gotta do, I gotta do, I gotta suffer
Pain in my heart, carry burdens for the struggle
Where I gotta do, I gotta do, I gotta bleed
Earth, it's no more, won't you burn this wall

This is the reversed verse in FEAR. It's interesting when considering the lyrics in DUCKWORTH: "What happens on Earth stays on Earth, we gonna put it in reverse"
Kendrick just released his most charismatic album
Also, shot in the dark (not really, it's ... read more

I don't like hip-hop, I didn't plan to listen it (exception was for TBAP concept). But when I read that it's easy to listen it even if you're not a big fan of hip hop or introspection's work is so fabulous, I was curious ...

First, I don't see the astonishing production. I mean ... the flaw and beats aren't really "new" or incredible. It can have subtility but I don't hear it and it's not a good sign because I'm the type of listeners who like subtility.

Second, I don't really find ... read more

Last night, I decided to spin this one more time for posterity. After all, it was only fair I gave all of Kenny's library love, right? Well, I realized: I was wrong about this album.

I found myself completely enthralled by this, and that I missed that this record was as much a commentary on America and God as TPAB and GKMC were. His new sound is poppy and trappy, and doesnt radiate the same nuance as TPAB, but thats not the point. The artistic intent shines through this album in a way I've ... read more

After not listening to this album for a long while, returning to it made me realize how incredible this album truly is. Yea it has two of my least favourite Kendrick Lamar songs but it has almost all of my personal favourites. Incredible listen. An iconic album. King Kendrick!

Kendrick does it again. To me, he's operating on a higher level than really anyone else in music right now. DAMN is not as obviously ambitious as TPAB, sure, but it's way more compact and accessible as a result. It's got more quotables and memorable hooks than any previous Kendrick album too, and without sacrificing the depth and cohesion Kendrick is known for. Call me a fanboy, but this streak of classics Kendrick is on is seriously making the case for him as an all-time great for me.

I've never actually listened to any of the lyrics on this album too deeply, I always just listened to it as if it were just an album of bangers. I really like every track for the most part but it's no GKMC or TPAB sonically.

fav tracks: DNA, YAH, ELEMENT, FEEL, PRIDE, HUMBLE, LUST (personal favourite), XXX, FEAR (to an extent)
least favourite: GOD

Solid

Comparing this to the last two makes DAMN. feel tiny and insignificant.
On it's own, I think DAMN. is great, overhyped as hell, but exciting and engaging for the most part.

BEST.: XXX.

WEAKEST.: LOVE.

With DAMN., Kendrick is at his most scattered and thematically inconsistent. Even the sounds on this album are the least boundary-pushing they’ve ever been for Kendrick, although K-Dot’s delivery and lyricism still provides for a mostly enjoyable listen.

Best tracks: DNA, ELEMENT, PRIDE, HUMBLE, XXX, DUCKWORTH
Worst tracks: LOYALTY, LOVE

More direct and agressive than GKMC and TPAB, "DAMN." is also his weakest effort since "Section 80." (without counting "untitled unmastered"). Still, it's a solid record with some awesome tracks ("DNA", "HUMBLE") and an overall dark atmosphere which is pretty cool.

Essas músicas encaixam muito bem ... read more

More of the same lyrical content from Kendrick, the beats are good, with LUST. being my favorite, and Zacari has a pretty good feature on LOVE. too.

DAMN this is good...

But with all seriousness. Besides the fact that Kendrick's flow is majestic, and his writing is always good and versatile, I've always love how he offers high quality, different styles, and how he managed to evolve his sound in each of his different LPs. By all means he was always beyond the standard, sonically and quality wise. Im not really sure if this is the case though...

I feel like DAMN. is a hard album to rate because there is no real progress since TPAB (and till ... read more

I think what made TPAB so compelling was this crazy combination of non-hip hop musical influences. What made GKMC so compelling was the storyline that ran through it. Both of these albums also had incredibly thematic connections and lyricism. While the themes and lyrics on this record are great, as Kendrick is a great poet, it lacks either of the elements that made his last two records so incredible. Musically it lacks the cohesion and consistency we've come to expect from him. While I really ... read more

"DAMN." is a compilation of Kendrick's thoughts about everything in this moment right now about him, his career and more things that he feel the need to speak. "DAMN." is complex in the best way Kendrick can provide us.

This is a really interesting album. Maybe Kendrick's best project lyrically and thematically but sonically is a disappointment. There are some great songs here and some really low moments. Still, a really nice album, probably my least favorite Kendrick project, but I'm sure I'll comeback to it.

Favorite Tracks: BLOOD, DNA, YAH, HUMBLE, XXX, DUCKWORTH

DAMN. manages to bring out slam poet in the most poppy of ways for Kendrick Lamar. Most tracks on this album can be easily regarded as some of Kendrick.s most exciting and timeless efforts yet. However, DAMN. takes too many safe bets and lacks the depth and variety that To Pimp a Butterfly achieved. Production however is phenomenal and manages to save some tracks that would have otherwise lost my attention.

A year on and I still love this album to bits. Sure it didn't "break new ground" like TPAB did but it's made with love and care by a man with a lot of expectations on his head. As an album this serves some excellent singles making for perfect listening to on their own. However it still continues that artistic expression by listening to it all the way through. BLOOD and DUCKWORTH are the start and end to our story and serve the narrative more in the long term. I still like to listen to ... read more

So yes, Kendrick Lamar is human, he can release a project that isn’t a 10/10 instant classic, shocking right? It took me 10 listens of the album to fully get a feel of the project as a whole and I can now safely say it is my least favourite of his albums. How good must Kendrick be if this of all albums is his worst? Because this thing is far from shoddy, if anything it’s absolutely brilliant; it’s just not quite ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ and it’s not quite ... read more

Took me a few listens to appreciate these songs as a whole album as they are all very different. Kendrick doesn't create a central idea but instead portrays his immense strength - as a rapper, lyricist and person. Very solid album with a great mix of Kendrick's best- TPAB, GKMC and Section.80.

Best: DNA, LOVE, FEAR
