CRITIC REVIEWS

AllMusic

It's Goldfrapp's most sophisticated work to date, and one of their most consistently satisfying albums.

This is real music, about real people, dealing in real emotion. That it sounds so gorgeously lush too is mere icing on a very rich cake.

Under The Radar

They're fragile mists of songs, often hanging together as much by theme and mood as structure. It's a haunting song cycle, one that might not necessarily appeal to their fan base as a whole. But give it another listen; for all its subtlety, this is a role that Goldfrapp was born to play.

Pretty Much Amazing

Tales of You is all rather beautiful, but also rather quiet. Possibly too quiet, at points

The arrangements here are certainly accomplished, but it's still that voice which makes the whole thing glow.

Consequence of Sound

With every twist and turn, Tales of Us grows stronger in narrative and composition, though it comes at the cost of being patient. It’s a thought-provoking morning record, saved for the hours just before dawn, when everything’s still, life only dwells, and fantasies feel comparable.

NME

Come sixth album ‘Tales Of Us’ there’s barely any ‘tronica’ at all, with Alison and her accomplice Will Gregory swapping grooves for pagan twaddle.

My favorite Goldfrapp album and one of my absolute favorite albums of all time. Breathtakingly gorgeous even in it's deepest melancholy, 'Tales of Us' is an absolute diamond of an album. Funnily enough, I thought Clay was an incredibly happy closer for the album til I read it was based on a real love letter written by a gay soldier in WWII. It's still a sun coming up on an icy moonlit night, but that light is bittersweet.

faves: all of them, but atm I'd say "Annabel", ... read more

"Annabel" and "Drew" are beautiful, but this album is just a bit too slow. I have grown to appreciate it more, but it needed a little something.

Letting the discoball smash, the couple draws a weak course among the shadows and the whispers.
The trap lies in the center.
