In the near-decade since their 1999 breakthrough Ágætis Byrjun, Iceland's Sigur Rós have made pathos their playground. For them, "little" is scarcely an option: Instead, they've built a career out of conjuring God-sized renderings of sorrow, fragility, and teary joy, rarely on a scale anything less than epic. They've done this instinctively and automatically, sometimes to the detriment of their compositions, leaving the impression that the songs are secondary vessels for spectacle. In the sense that they're less concerned with intellectual honesty than they are with the overall visceral impact of the thing they're creating, Sigur Rós are the Michael Bays of melodrama.

"Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust" takes a more simplified approach to song structures this time around. That doesn't mean it can't have a lot of moments of brilliance, though, as Sigur Rós make yet another beautiful record with gorgeous vocals and outstanding melodies. It's not their most consistent release, but it still has a lot of what made the band so great.

It's by far their most positive album (maybe Takk... as well), but strangely it's the more Sigur Ros-y moments (Ara Batur, Festival) that I like the most. Still a fantastic album

Sigur Rós are, justifiably, more loved for their ambient, oniric melodies rather than their pop fast-paced pieces, yet I found this album to show both sides of their work at their finest. I can not help but dance and smile with Inní mér syngur vitleysingur and Við spilum endalaust but there's always room for laying back and relax with Festival and Ára bátur.
NR
It's still undeniably Sigur. A record in which some moments reach the brilliance matched by their second album.
