Here is a fine example of an artist entirely seeking for a shocking-value incorporation in his music, as an undeniable challenging/provocateur background is found preceding his name, though getting but a huge failure in his final results by flirting a bit too closely with mainstream-pop conventions.

In music, the notions of good and bad taste seem to have disappeared since the Internet-King has housed everyone in the same boat and there is no real hierarchy to cling to. As such, the discovery of "Bravado", Australian Kirin J Callinan's second album, was a shock. "Bravado" is made up of some of the hottest stadium rock, synth pop syrup and country-tested testosterone EDM. Since when did I laugh so much while listening to a record? For a long time, I really consider this ... read more

So over the top and all the better for it: before you say it, yes, I’m big enough.

This grew on me. While there are some weaker cuts in the tracks that kind of put the album to a syrup-y halt, most of the time Kirin serves up catchy pop songs with a pallette of caliburs. Tracks such as "My Moment", "Big Enough", "S.A.D." and "Living Each Day", all have a sense of humor to them, while not sacrificing songwriting in the longer run. Synth-led or not, the instrumentation stays thick and well mixed, even through more noisier spots, like ... read more

A fun bombastic pop album that in a sense is "off the wall". People who listen to the latest kirin j callinan record may be baffled of the music choices made but in my own opinion this feels so refreshing and enthralling. The absurd lyrics and weird instrumental passages makes it one of the most unique listens i heard in a pop record.

It's the tacky dance-pop tracks with the horrible synthesizers that ruin this album for me. If these and a few of the more insubstantial slow songs were missing, and Kirin instead built more directly from the sound he's going for on the singles (minus Big Enough), this could have been one of my favorite releases of 2017.

Favorite tracks: Bravado, S.A.D.
Least favorites: This Whole Town, Big Enough (though I'll admit the music video is a winner)

Anyone who seriously enjoys this is sipping the Fantano tea a lil too hard.

This was so dazzling at the first listen, however as I was watching the videos of the singles and relistening to the whole record I realized this clearly was made in purpose of using those synthesizers and club beats of this decade's early years. Callinan voice doesn't match the isntrumentals at first, however that's what makes it so challenging and enjoyable at the same time, it's a freak party, one that you don't want to miss even if you have fun or not. I understand that this might work more ... read more

This is such a fun album, makes me want to sing along and dance in my underwear. Especially My Moment, SAD, Living Each Day, Big Enough and This Whole Town are fantastic, over the top explosions of ... whatever this is. Seriously, I keep coming back to this thing with a smile on my face.

There are moments in this album that feel like EDM, or super poppy, and I love it. It’s the kind of album that makes me want to ... read more
