Relistened. Holy shit this is way better than I remember. Might be a masterpiece.

P.S.: If your pussy/bussy doesn't pop all the way to the fucking ozone layer at 3:27 on Ghetto Woman, then you're not human. Sorry about the bad news.

Not as grand or awe-inspiring as her previous Lp, but this is just as fun and definitely a bop.

I must be the only person who thinks this is decidedly average

Three years after dropping The Archandroid, Janelle returns with The Electric Lady. A great record that follows in the same vein as her previous release. The themes and grandour, the organic changes in instrumentation from genre to genre, and the fantastic vocal performances from the lady herself are all still here.
However, this record feels a bit more messy and unfocused. Certain songs could have been cut, especially the interludes throughout, who doesn't really add anything to the narrative ... read more

Electric Lady is great but not as hypnotizing as The ArchAndroid.

E, claro, merece entrar para ... read more

It’s nice. The vocals, symphonies, ideas, it is catchy. And what is weird about it is that it feels classic, elegant and fun at the same time. If you like funky pop you should check this out

Definitely not as strong as her debut album (or even her EP...I actually prefer the EP, too), but still a solid album within Janelle's discography...

Wouldn't call it way less ambitious than The ArchAndroid, but The Electric Lady is definitely less focused and not as grand in tone...it feels like Monáe created this project as a triumphant epilogue to her debut...

Janelle comes through with a solid follow-up to her masterful debut album, The Archandroid.

There are a lot of highlights on this thing for me, but the album as a whole pales in comparisson to the pure scale and brilliance of the first.

Faves: Primetime, Electric Lady, Dance Apocalyptic, Victory, Can't Live Without Your Love

Starts out fantastic but loses steam near the end. It's just about the exact length of its predecessor, yet somehow it feels longer. Still enjoyed most of it though.

Q.U.E.E.N. é pop perfection, é ... read more

Although this album might not be my very favourite type of music, the featuring of Erykah Badu in Queen already made it interesting. However, to know that each song was not a repetition of the previous, and to be spell-bound by the rhythm so you cannot not move and finally having lyrics that calls to some form of inner revolution makes it very much mentioning and listening to... more than once.

David Letterman called Janelle Monae, 'The hardest working woman in the music industry' and I think he might be right. Even if the music isn't quite as fresh or memorable as her previous album The Archandroid it's hard not to marvel at the scope of it all. The concepts, the classical suite format of it all, the funky vibes, it's not hard to admire all of the effort put into it.

Electric Lady is somewhat more accessible, feminine and soulful than her stellar effort The Archandroid, but it still embodies Janelle Monae's commitment to creating insightful music. Once again she creates a kaleidoscope of richly textured sounds that mesh so well with her sonorous voice.

Janelle Monae's second album, The Electric Lady, is a soulful and fun-filled blast that excels in immediate high class. What she does so smart is the exceptional and working blend of genres from Soul, R&B to Funk and Pop Ballads. As well as that the Suite Overtures this time aren't skip-worthy, the interludes are interesting and funny, and there's a good number of stand-out tracks. The Electric Lady picks up where her debut album left off and immediately shines in every ... read more

You have to listen to this all the way thru before passing judgement - hooked after the first turn

A terrific second album! Dance Apocalyptic is a brilliant track with "Look into my eyes" channelling Les Baxter. Awesome.

This is really more of a preliminary rating, because it's basically impossible to judge a double album after a single listen, but this falls short of ArchAndroid for me. It almost feels like she's looking more to the past this time, rather than recapturing that fresh, futuristic, wheredidthisevencomefrom sound that she nailed on ArchAndroid. I'll give it more time though... the lead track with Prince is a jam.
