Jen Cloher's self titled fourth album is one of deeply personal, intense contemplation and inner dialogues - it's initially challenging but perseverance is worthwhile.

Loud and Quiet

The physical and emotional presence of Barnett is equally inescapable in the song structures. Recorded live with minimal overdubs, the eleven tracks resemble overflowing diary entries that frequently eschew choruses.

Repeated listens begin to peel back the layers of her craft, revealing an artist still getting comfortable in her own skin, her talent overcoming an occasionally masochistic desire to neglect the music itself.
