The details are wrenching in their specificity; as a storyteller, Savage has very few equals.

Tiny Mix Tapes

Issa Album strikes a delicate and welcome balance, enormously broadening 21’s artistic horizons without venturing beyond recognizability.

XXL

All in all, 21 Savage manages to craft a fairly concise project with Issa Album about all the things that make him such a compelling rapper in today’s hip-hop landscape.

GIGsoup
It’s a consistent record that has some of the best production Atlanta trap has seen in recent years. While 21 isn’t the most energetic performer, the album works.
66
HipHopDX
21’s efforts sometimes go in vain and occasionally produce mediocre results, but the strides made are certainly commendable.
65
Pitchfork

The ambitious debut from 21 Savage features some of the best producers around, but the young rapper doesn't have the finesse to break out beyond his horror-film style.

60
Crack Magazine

Issa Album doesn’t quite improve on a trademark sound, and there’s the nagging feeling that 21 Savage’s classic record is already behind him. But lyrically there are interesting diversions from stone-faced nihilism.

60
AllMusic

Issa is a competent statement that demonstrates promise from the young rapper.

Consequence of Sound

For all its flaws, Issa Album can be quite a lot of fun. Credit goes to 21 Savage’s sense for simple hooks; the easy way he slides into the pocket of the beat. But perhaps even more credit is due to the beatmakers.

Catchy and lit. Fun at parties and wilin out in your car, but nothing thought provoking and most of the tracks on here are a dime a dozen. Again, they are catchy.

Bank Account is a highlight, an insane banger. The rest of the album, well, it's just another typicall trap album.

Issa (underrated) album again by those who continue to think trap has no place in pop music as a whole.
