There is an absolutely insane amount of bite to this project, to the point where it feels like it is barely able to be contained. So much detail is placed into these songs to make you feel like you are getting ripped into pieces, but it also provides tons of space to breathe as well. incredibly balanced and tasteful in it's overwhelming intensity. The more subtle moments give this EP a sense of emotional purpose as well, just adding yet another layer to this experience. This project is only 18 ... read more

Converge, hello??

Yeah this thing is very Metallic Hardcore-esque, combined with Screamo and Breakcore elements. And as a fan of that sound, I do really enjoy it. Some of the tracks feel a bit empty at parts, but generally it's very energetic and innovative, despite having its clear influences.

Needs some more fine-tuning, because it doesn't have much cohesion atm, but there is a ton of potential here to make something incredible in the future. The way it is though, it's still very ... read more

NO NUANCE REVIEW

Alright I’m annoyed at myself. Because most of this EP I love. The performances are great, the music is intense, the production is crazy, the guitars anre nasty, and vocals have so much bite to them. There’s so much to love about this EP, and if it weren’t for just one, I repeat, ONE thing, I would rate this very high.

But I can’t STAND that fucking snare.

Very GOOD EP that would be GREAT if it didn’t give me “St. Anger” flashbacks.

HOOOOOLY GOOOOOOD

I kinda just waltzed upon this EP a week ago and been meaning to review and formally rate it, but I’ve just been replaying this nonstop cause this shit is fuckin HEAT!!! Basically takes the fromjoy formula, but it kinda adds its own unique take on it, like incorporating elements of glitchy beats and a more cryptic, almost sinister, atmosphere attached to it. Not to mention those damn Screamo vocals that just hit different, dog. This is an early lead for metal aoty, this ... read more

Breakcore meets metalcore?? I’m sold

Short review today, but I just had to talk about this thing. I wasn’t there for the stream, but this piqued my interest enough to give it a listen, and wow it's fantastic. It has such a firm grasp of how to really sell this sound correctly, creating a super unique and emotional experience.

The mixture of breakcore and metalcore is done wonderfully here. Breakcore already has this insane and heightened energy, and combined with metalcore, it ... read more

I love it when the AOTY community goes crazy over a metalcore project especially when so many negative stereotypes are associated with the genre. This is a short EP that showcases some heavy riffs and breakdowns that grab your attention really well. It also features breakcore and screamo in order to put a twist on it and make it more different.

I listened to this EP in mid January and thought it was great. However, I was working on other reviews and haven't been able to get all my important ... read more

if 100 gecs had a musical threesome with pierce the veil and bring me the horizon

i really enjoyed the 15 minutes of music here. it needs some polishing here and there, but his screams sound great and so does his clean singing. this ep is dripping with creativity, and it makes me love the metalcore/glitch mashup more. (Un)Equivalent_Exchange really stood out with the whole "I'm sorry, forgive me" part in the middle of the song, probably making this my favorite song in the ep. the ... read more

Well, this came out of absolutely fucking nowhere.

Scrolling through the top-ranked albums of the year on AOTY as one does, I was shocked to find a random EP had shot to the top of the charts, beating out Glass Beach, beating out The Smile. That EP was the death and birth of an angel by the artist fallingwithscissors. This project is fucking insane. Harsh, punishing, abrasive, off the wall as it is, fallingwithscissors manages to pack so many musical elements into a project barely 17 minutes ... read more

I'm glad that I discovered user-based music websites like AOTY, RYM and etc. Because I would've never discovered some artists and bands "specifically the ones that i'm currently a big fan of" if I never joined them.
After seeing the praise that this is project is receiving, along with the fact that I was looking for something interesting released in 2024 to listen to, I decided to give it a try.
At first glance, I thought "the death and birth of an angel" Is a debut album. ... read more

At first I found this a difficult listen, for obvious reasons but the more and more I listened to it the more and more i started to fall in love. picking up on a different little quirk everytime. This was really a first taste at a Metalcore and tbh the only reason i gave the majority 8/10s was bc it kind of just all sounded the same and that’s what i generally thought of that sound and so the scores of than an 80 are the ones that switch it up a bit and the entire tracklist is just ... read more

What the fuck
I popped into a BTiM stream just a bit ago and heard something mentioned about fallingwithscissors, and Brad was praising it and saying how good it is, so I looked it up and checked it out since it was pretty short. WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
ITS SO LOUD AND AWESOME AND INSANELY GOOD!! How is there THIS MUCH good music just barely a month into the year?? I had chills through this entire thing, I don't even know what to say about it, this is ... read more

it's like you mixed early 2000s Converge and breakcore. the vocals are nothing but PURE Converge, but when you get breakcore sections it reminds me of (the only other mathy breakcoreband out there) fromjoy. definitely a must hear for modern metalcore.

This makes me want to break everything within a 50 mile radius of me

the death and birth of an angel is the newest EP from metalcore/screamo/breakcore band fallingwithscissors, a band I have absolutely no prior experience listening to prior to this EP at all, and it seems like they're fairly new on the music scene. So, what does this band have to offer with this EP?

Anger. Violence. Madness. Occultism. Razor sharp, punchdrunk metalcore. I'm already somewhat unfamiliar with metalcore outside ... read more

first 100 of the year.
Yea this is amazing, i love the breakcore inspirations and just the sheer intensity of everything.
reminded me of fromjoy, but that ain't a complaint cuz fromjoy is amazing.
i definitely just have a weird warm spot for obscure metal projects that integrate breakcore into their projects seamlessly.
I know this is mostly a metal project, but i love the breakcore bits, they sound so amazing, and keep you engaged for the entire thing.
also i love the weird Hard Bass part on ... read more

There's a lot of energy here, blending some breakcore ideas that work really well. The songs are impactful and well-structured. Despite the chaos in the instrumental, it still provides plenty of room to breathe and digest the atmosphere.

Yeah this goes fucking insane, what the hell. Going into this project I was just intimidated, thinking what tf is about it happen. And yeah it blew my brain out of my skull. I’ve listened to zero Metalcore, and this definitely peaked my interest in the genre more because I had the stank face pretty much the majority of the time. The transitions between songs are crazy. I feel like with most clean transitions, I can still tell that the song changed but I didn't even tell that gh0st.shell ended until I looked over like 10 seconds later.

Crazy vocals and instrumentals on every single song (though the first song doesn't have vocals)

I like the lyrics as well. They leave it very abstract so that you can interpret it how you want and I like a lot of the themes like how there is something beyond this life, I especially ... read more

If you've followed my reviews for any time you'll probably know that for me the most important thing when determining my enjoyment of an album has always been how much it captivates me, how much it engulfs me in the subject matter and sound of its art. You'll also know alongside this that the two key variables for how captivated I am by a project are, one, the energy the project displays, and two, the emotional impact it brings to the listening experience. the death and birth of an angel do ... read more

The death and birth of an angel is up that I saw a lot of people fall in love with, surprisingly even Brad, sadly I can relate to that.

This ep by FallingwithScissors is just all over a place mess for me with elements that could be better if this wasn't so overproduced.
Production got some interesting ideas but somehow managed to overshadow these ideas with Metalcore which is at best meh and at worst annoying and obnoxious.

Overall, I can see why people would like this ep but its extremely ... read more
