Loud and Quiet
‘Shitty Hits’ is by turns self-deprecating and tender, with wonky piano riffs and static-riddled percussion twining around the lyrics. Katie Von Schleicher’s debut tackles feelings of mediocrity, and turns them into something grand instead.
The second album from the Maryland singer-songwriter is sharp and beguiling, carried by Katie Von Schleicher’s innate and economic pop instincts.
God Is in the TV

Shitty Hits explores all of the undulating variation of a life on earth, the tugs and pulls, the pain and pleasure, the highs and lows. Sometimes things will be shitty, and sometimes they’ll be a hit. This album definitely contains more of the later.

The album is mostly quite loud compared to Bleakspoitation, with full band arrangements being the norm and psychedelic instrumental flourishes seeping from the cracks at every turn in phrase or every switch of a chord. It’s lush, and it works, especially as a backdrop for the powerful vocal turns of Von Schleicher.

Overall Rating: 74 out of 110 = 67%

Overall Opinion: Pretty strong first half and then it feels like it changes directions a bit..either that or a trailed off. I enjoyed a good bit of this though albeit forgettable and sometimes boring.
