Random Person: “How many times can you say “Faggot” in an album without pissing too many people off?”
Alex Cameron: *downs pint of lager* “Watch and learn, faggot”
This is just a 100, I literally just can't review this because I can't put into words the amount of love and appreciation I have for this project, it simply is "Forced Witness" by Alex Cameron, I could try and say something I liked about this thing but I literally like every single thing about this album, I've never loved a set of songs the way I love this one, literally every song is worth listening to, every track is fun, each song brings something new, it's just... a masterpiece ... read more
Can pop be fun again?
Yes, with Alex Cameron, the King of Musical Satire, as I like to dub him. In 2016, Alex Cameron proved that he could continue to exist after Seekae with his debut solo album "Jumping The Shark". The Australian dandy has made his conversion by flirting with 80's sounds. And since it worked, Cameron decided to release a second album "Forced Witness".
Surrounded by Jonathan Rado (Foxygen) at the production, Brandon Flowers (The Killers) and his ... read more
Every day on my way to work I walk past three or four hobos and all I can think about is this lyric:
"The worst part about being homeless
Is waking up from a dirty wet dream
With a lap full of cum and a head full of steam"
I'm guessing he's not wrong but I'm too shy to ask.
Moment of clarity
Forced Witness is a hotpot of just the greatest one-liners, character studies and ingenious verses i have ever heard.
all over this absurdly catchy sleazy groovy drunk uncle 80s synthpop, i'm always just as amazed everytime i return.
Wonderful
Fucking oath mate, i love how catchy and outrageous this album can be at most times. This album needs more attention and recognition how fun this record is. Definitely one of my favourite albums of the year.
Edit: Had this on repeat, god knows how many times.
Not that I condone Alex's actions on this album, but goddamn he makes being a worthless creepo sound so appealing!
This guy has such creative lyrics and funny song concepts.
This album goes on a more rock approach but keeps some of the synthpop from Jumping the Shark. I think this production fits his style way more and makes for an all-round more enjoyable listening experience. Hoping that he keeps this up on his next album.
I've been returning to each album I've previously rated and formally reviewing them. Originally for my AOTY list, which is not necessarily based on their ratings because when I rate an album I try to leave it at my initial rating unless my opinion on it drastically changes enough for me to re-rate it, Alex Cameron's Forced Witness made the 4th slot behind Brockhampton's Saturation I in 3rd, CARE's LUV IN THE RUINS in 2nd, and Ariel Pink's Dedicated to Bobby Jameson in 1st. If I knew how ... read more
Colorful hooks and catchy synth riffs packed into what turns out to be a very entertaining project.
Fantastic song after fantastic song. Alex’s husky voice, incredibly sharp lyricism and fantastic 80’s inspired instrumentation, with the magnificent Roy on sax, meld together perfectly on this brilliant album. These songs will never get old. Back-to-back awesomeness. A favourite of mine for many years. Great to see some superb Australian talent.
Really catchy and a surprisingly fun listen.
Best Track: Candy May
Worst Track: Politics of Love
Combining the seediest of male tendencies in the lyrics and the best of indie/synth/yacht rock in the production, Alex Cameron delivers a sleazy, groovy and highly entertaining record for the ages. Each track hits you head on with glitzy, shimmering synths and chords, from the opening drum beat on "Candy May" to the ending piano synths on "Politics of Love". There's never a moment where the album takes a break, and that's a great thing! Whether you're jamming out to the ... read more
Wow I wish I listened to this album when it came out because it would have been very high in my personal 2017 year end list. I love this album and its concept focusing on this kinda creepy loser. Forced Witness has this Tim and Eric vibe where the song concepts feel so absurd (being catfished, waiting for a teenage girl to turn 18, watching a lot of porn to cope with a breakup resulting from a dead bedroom, etc.) but yet there's this genuine feeling toward these songs. It is as if Alex Cameron ... read more
I was very pleased with Alex Cameron's first record, Jumping the Shark, and the same goes with his follow-up. Cameron really embraces the use of synth and creative instrumentation in both of his records. The first 5 tracks are very solid and fun. The rest of the record is good, but they seem to lack a certain vibe that I got from earlier in the record. The record ends on a great note with "Politics of Love" as well. Overall, clever, meaningful songwriting from Cameron that is backed ... read more
