Willowbank is a mature album of exquisite beauty that confirms Yumi Zouma as masters of musical storytelling.

Under The Radar

Willowbank is the great return, the band finally comfortable as a band, heading back to record the follow-up to last year's Yoncalla.

‘Willowbank’ is utterly charming, shimmering and another step in Yumi Zouma’s quietly fascinating evolution.

The Line of Best Fit

The sense of place that Yumi Zouma finally seems to have found on Willowbank brings an album that’s bristling with energy, albeit one that does feel overstuffed. And yet, even in the face of that, it’s hard not to be swept away by Willowbank.

It's another unassuming pleasure from a sneaky good band, with just enough of a twist to make it a fine follow up to Yoncalla.

Yumi Zouma are still in a league of their own on Willowbank, given how there’s no other artist right now who's as good in merging simple dance floor pleasures with a dreamlike undercurrent. They can certainly benefit from that, though at times it’s as if the band is still trying to figure out the right temperament to base off of for the extent of a full-length album.

Other than that, I adore this album.

Yumi Zouma‘s “Willowbank” sounds like a band trying to escape their past identity and metamorphosing into something completely new.
