Rolling Stone

It's the group's most cohesive album yet and a satisfying introduction to what Fifth Harmony can be capable of in their new era.

Entertainment Weekly

Fifth Harmony echoes like a B side to last year’s superior 7/27 (which begat the smash single “Work From Home”) but delivers only a faint aftershock of its quake.

AllMusic

While Fifth Harmony aren't as cutting edge as some of their contemporaries like Solange or Janelle Monae, or even Beyonce for that matter, they do make a pleasingly reliable, throwback style of R&B, drawing heavily upon the '90s vibe of acts like TLC, Toni Braxton, and En Vogue.

Pitchfork

Now down to a quartet, the group’s latest album falls short of the kind of stellar pop songwriting they once possessed.

Considering the behind the scenes drama surrounding the record, you’d have expected Fifth Harmony to be a much more interesting and personal listen than the bland cookie-cutter fare they’ve served up.

"Long as you're holding me down, down, down
I'm gon' keep lovin' you down, down, down"

"He like that bang, bang, bang
He like that bomb, bomb, bomb
He like that love, love, love
I’m like that drug, drug, drug"

"Disaronno on the rocks (On the rocks)
Fireball, lemon drop (Lemon drop)
One o'clock on the dot (On the dot)
Shut up, boy, you talk a lot (Uh)"

Wait till you hear the rest.

Fifth Harmony’s self-titled album matures — but loses its mainstream charm — as the girl group becomes a quartet. It lacks likability and for most tracks, the lyrical content and idea is repetitive. It felt like they put more attention to the composition than the writing.

Kind of disappointing that their 3rd album is still missing personality in lyrics or concepts but still an enjoyable album

It's honestly upsetting how mediocre this album feels, especially coming from a talented group of girls like this. Instead of tryinh to attempt new things, and maybe waiting on putting out their album to assure it's top quality, it suffers from lackluster songwriting and production. "Down" feels like an obvious attempt for the group to get it's next hit, but lacks the charm and power of singles like "Work from Home" and "Worth It". "He Like That" has a ... read more
