AllMusic
The well-rounded, risk-taking, but true-to-its-roots album suggests he can weather the highs and lows like a champion and that Birdman and Slim knew something everyone else didn't when they bet the farm on the formerly "raw talent," now "fully formed" Lil Wayne.

Pitchfork
Veteran rapper breaks from Mannie Fresh and grows up quickly, displaying a flexible flow and more layered lyrics.

PopMatters
He really IS the best rapper alive, at least when he tries.

If he stays on this track, who knows what the future holds? Maybe his visions of grandeur as, “The best rapper alive, since the best rapper retired,” will come to fruition.

Honestly, the biggest reason Tha Carter II could be considered a classic is because words just don’t do it justice. Like how he claims to be the best but doesn’t seem preoccupied with proving it. It’s like he just knows it, and if you don’t, that’s your ignorance.

Made with relatively obscure Dirty South producers, Tha Carter II is overlong, but often thrilling.

Lil Wayne back with a large collection of Southern Hip-Hop bangers, with top lyrical ability, and great production (Albeit, with some shoddy mixing here and there). There's not a single track on this album that bores me even a little, which is even more impressive when you look at this album's 77 minute runtime. Wayne finally got a good team of producers, because these beats are clean, and catchy as well. And them there's Shooter, which is just a masterpiece. No clue how anyone could dislike ... read more

After feeling really underwhelmed after hearing Tha Carter III for the first time for awhile back, I really kinda made up my mind that Wayne just wasn't my thing, despite the amount of respect I have for his talent and his overall impact and influence on the hiphop world in general. Well, I was feeling brave and I decided to give Wayne another chance with Tha Carter II.

and imma be honest

He's got no misses here. Bars are very solid throughout this thing, the usual annoying qualities ... read more

Lil Wayne keeps on getting better with his new album ''Tha Carter II''.
It's a little bit repetitive as all of his albums are up to this point but still enjoyable for the most part.

Lil wayne with a fuckin banger. Tha carter 2 brings a lot of energy. I love this album. This album is lil waynes best album. I feel like this has more bangers than tha carter 3.
