CRITIC REVIEWS

AllMusic

Juggling Masonic symbols, Golden Age hip-hop cassettes, and loaded glocks with ease, the rapper is an excellent tour guide through this warped landscape of thrills and chills

The Line of Best Fit

Does Ferg both overcome and uphold the moniker of A$AP in this, his first major solo effort: yes.

Pitchfork

Though Trap Lord's vision is refracted through split personalities-- for better or for worse-- A$AP Ferg still sounds like a star in the making.

Spin

There's nothing on Trap Lord to suggest Ferg will follow A$AP Rocky onto the pop charts, but it's a rewardingly dark and grounded listen.

FACT Magazine

The tight weaving of the dreamy A$AP productions with Ferg’s rebel stance sees Trap Lord teeter somewhere between bullish and elegant, and when it’s well executed it’s a delight.

HipHopDX

Overall, A$AP Ferg’s Trap Lord, is a solid, if an sometimes-uninspired effort. It occupies that zone between the mindless “turn up” music and projects that have gotten a praise for being entertaining enough to at least partially negate a desire for more depth.

Consequence of Sound

Originally planned as a mixtape, there’s an unfinished feeling to Trap Lord, which in turn lends a lot of promise to the eventual follow-up.

Tiny Mix Tapes

It’s a fun ride, to be sure, but once the high wears off and all that’s left is the darkness, you can catch a faint glimpse of oblivion.

A$AP Ferg is a very underrated rapper, and talent in general. rocky gets a lot of the spotlight, when ferg seems to have a much clearer vision of what he wants to do. this LP had endless amounts of energy coming out of it, almost every song was a banger that was a really great listen. ferg isnt the best lyricist at all, but his flow is pretty great in my opinion. there were a few slip ups here and there, but ... read more

A definite contender for trap AOTD, A$AP Ferg's debut album is consistently energetic and full of killer bars.

I was, like many, introduced to Ferg through his “Work” remix that features on this very album, a contender for posse cut of the decade alongside Kanye's “Mercy” or even Tinchy Stryder's “Game Over” (UK REPRESENT!). Fair to say the charisma on display on “Work” was present all across this album.

The ridiculously addictive ... read more
