they don’t make music this groovy anymore! very psychedelic release from Yes, they haven’t quite made their sound yet BUT it’s still a solid release! it’s fun and giving

There’s a lot more psychedelic rock and folk rock going on in Yes’s 1969 debut than there is in any other Yes album, and that’s a good thing. It gives it its own sound and identity, and it’s a fun listen through and through. It’s full of energy and is the sound of an exciting young band with nothing to lose.

In 1969 the progressive rock band that would dominate the 70s known only as Yes would release their first and self-titled album. It really shines a unique light on the origins of Yes; the folk rock and jazz fusion type of influence that they started out with in this album, and how that would slowly but surely evolve into pop rock over the course of a decade and a half.

this album suffers a lot from the god awful production, but it's an overall solid debut effort. just about every track on here is compelling in some way - it's just a shame they were butchered by the producers.
