"Queens of the Breakers" is a stubbornly slow psych-folk album that deserves praise for its moments of nuanced beauty, but requires some pretty intense concentration and patience on the part of the listener to get there. The pleasures are modest enough that they don't always outweigh some missteps and some strange aesthetic decisions -- I'm not personally a fan of Lucius's vocals over these arrangements, for instance -- making the album feel longer than its fifty minutes.
