Part 1 is a decent start, kinda sounds like filler from "Write About Love" at times. Part 2 is a huge adjustment and my personal of the three, not really a dud on this one. Part 3 is my least favorite. I couldn't finish it to be honest. Overall I think it can be too gushy and whimsical with it's sound (at times mind you) and sometimes it can drag but when it's good....oh man it's really good!
I like the band, heaps. This is a compilation of, blah, blah, blah. Murdoch feels a full length LP gets lost, so, he and the band has resorted to EP releases. Those are compiled here. Seems like a full length to me. They're coming to the Oregon Zoo this summer. That will be fun. It's a great open air venue, so, bring your kids... The lions get hungry. That is, if you're feeling sinister! Tah!!
All 3 EPs are of consistent quality and actually do come together fairly well to form a coherent album. It's really no more or less than what you would expect from a modern-day Belle & Sebastian album. The songs are all delicate and incredibly pleasant. Some stick out more than others, but none sound really new or exciting. However, it is still a very enjoyable album to listen to, and there's really nothing to complain about on this release.
All three “How to Solve Our Human Problems” EPs are pasted one after another into a compilation that can probably be thought of as a lengthy Belle & Sebastian album. The individual song quality is certainly inconsistent, particularly given the high standards the band has set for themselves; there are probably five albums Belle & Sebastian albums where each song is stronger than any individual song here.
