Lovesexy is, quite obviously, the least exciting record of Prince's catalog from the 80s. His early work was full of brimming potential that inevitably blossomed into something pristine, and his later work from the decade showed him taking that potential and fully expanding on it. Nine albums deep and a little bit of the magic had died, it seems, yet Prince did the only thing he knew to do - proceed.

After his series of great albums of the 80s, Lovesexy feels like a disappointment. It is not a bad record, though, just not as sky-high as the others. Not much variety this time, as Prince follows more conventional paths, and there are some awkward moments as well, like the messy opening fanfare of Eye On or the chipmunk vocals heard on the title track. There are a couple of highlights however, like Alphabet St. and Dance on.
I'll award this a 30 for Prince being 30 when that album cover was shot and thinking it was a good idea :/
