This intro stands as a much more low key one compared to the previous Lips albums. Even after the song picks up, it’s still pretty chill, and also sees the return of some almost christmasy bells. Though I do wish the first half was a bit less lo fi than it is.
Placebo Headwound also stands as one of the best in the band’s career thus far. It also has one of the most interesting instrumentals the band has done so far too.

Something about this record feels like a slight step down from Transmissions rather that be the production or general directions of the songs as a whole. This album is a good experience but not an essential listen for me.
As this was projected to be a much larger success for the group after nearly a decade of creating music, mostly due to the release of their hit song She Don't Use Jelly on their previous release, The Flaming Lips still didn't blow up or make entirely noticeable waves with the release of Clouds Taste Metallic. However, looking back, many consider it one of their best, and there are certainly good reasons for why this is the case.

Essentially the blueprint for the eccentric indie rock/pop scene of the late 90’s and early 00’s. I hear Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Olivia Tremor control and so many more great projects that came years after this was released.
Some nice psychedlic pop on Clouds Taste Metallic but I am a big fan of The Flaming Lips as others but I will always say they're are good because they are and Clouds Taste Metallic does prove that.

Clouds Taste Metallic feels like how Hit To Death In The Future Head was to In A Priest Driven Ambulance as this feels like that equavelent to Transmissions From The Sattelite Heart with more neo-psychedelia and it's even more layered with their best production yet. Near perfect all round with the weaker tracks still being great.
So The Flaming Lips really just decided to get together and make a collection of the most perfect psych rock/noise pop songs you'll ever hear, huh? The fucking gall.
Turn off the OST & invert the colors and Star Wars is a story of a failed, corrupt republic being replaced by prosperous & stable empire whose only critics are a tiny but effective group of anarachist terorrists, with near-zero popular support and no clear motivation or politics.
Fav Trak: Lightning Strikes the Postman
obviously not the best Flaming Lips record, as some of these are great on the first listen and then have no impact on return listens, but as a cohesive record, the songs are great, even if the pacing is a tad off.
Underrated and overlooked at its sandwiched between the Flaming Lips first big hit and their best.
A tracklist packed with solid songwriting, decent performances and charming vibes.
Would recommend this to noise pop fans for sure

Their best guitar record, no doubt about that. Probably the first time that they really match a refined pop sensibility with well structured songs. I guess this would make my mind so much more if I didn't love so much their next records. But well, it's still a great collection of songs.
