One of the strengths of the record is that the songs never outstay their welcome, it’s a giddy rush from one to the next and the whole thing is done within 35 minutes. Dream Wife is a highly impressive debut and could be just the thing to shake off that (late) January sluggishness.
Dream Wife is brimming with grungey, glam melters and dreamy pop melodies that perfectly capture the enthusiasm and confidence of Dream Wife's live shows, without sounding too over-polished.
Dream Wife have seized a certain energy that is undeniable and -- despite the myriad inspirations and easy comparisons -- feels so fresh and alive, enough to make their trailblazing influences proud.
Dream Wife neither tempers its messaging, nor fears its own accessibility and inclusivity. While most artists would dread having to juggle the pressure to hit the mark, plus the weight of their legendary influences, Dream Wife have delivered an album that is refreshing in its clarity, its simplicity and its runaway quality.
Dream Wife is an album inextricably linked with the band’s own youthful energy, as it is projected from every single guitar lick, vocal tick and musical explosion across its 35 minutes.
Over fortified vocal harmonies, punching rock drum beats, and growling guitars that ring like fire alarms, Dream Wife have conceived a pointed but fun debut.
If their debut fails to offer a consistent, forceful message the way their riot grrrl heroes once did, they have at least figured out how to capture some of those predecessors’ energy. For now, Dream Wife leaves you revved up and ready to go with nowhere suggested.
Influenciadas por un estilo punk y garage. Dream Wife se descarga en un debut homónimo repleto de cortes salvajes, agresivos, y aunque no del todo innovadores, con completo vigor en toda su fibra.
Fav Tracks: "Let's Make Out", "Fire", "Act My Age".
There is so much energy in this album. The musical trio weaves through one filthy song to another, truly encapsulating the energy and excitement of youth in their eccentric sound. And that final song was really shocking…they will always keep the listener on their toes from their guitar riffs to their lyrics.

This is a good debut record from a Riot Grrrl band. I haven't listened to Dream Wife's 2020 album, but just based on this, the band has a lot of potential. The songs here have a lot of energy, the guitar riffs work very well spidering around the vocals and the album overall has some compelling melodies amidst the "riot grrrl" of it all, the yelling and whatnot.
Best songs: Let's Make Out, Somebody, Fire, Love Without Reason, Act My Age, Spend the Night
dream wife is a refreshing riot grrrl album, but apart from a few great songs like "fire," "love without reason," and "taste," it feels kind of flat and doesn't take as many risks as it could have.
