June Challenge, day 8
I've been somewhat of a Squarepusher fan for a little while now. I think his glitchy, erratic style of drum n bass is one of the best out there, and the way he frequently combines it with elements from nu jazz creates this super unique sound I really enjoy. So when his debut was finally put onto streaming services a few days ago, my interest was piqued, as I was very intrigued by how far Squarepusher's sound had developed before Hard Normal Daddy.

this is hard to explain, theres some moments that just got kinda boring and a little bit bland for my taste, but theres also really outstanding moments, beautiful dusty glitchy messes
What a phenomenal debut album. The atmosphere that Squarepusher achieves on this album is PEEEEEEEAK! It has this dark, yet oddly beautiful vibe to it and I absolutely LOVE IT! However, Squarepusher, even if your debut album is phenomenal, I would strongly advice you to not be fed weird things, as it might hurt your stomach and that would be kinda bad tbh. I’d recommend ordering some Domino’s pizza instead as it tastes delicious.

I was literally shaking in the waiting hall of the grocery outlet clutching a half drank red bull I was too afraid to throw away with acid bass blasting out of my bose quiet comfot 45 bluetooth wireless headphones. Although not a completely accurate comparison but this feels to me like a cross between 'Permutation' by Amon Tobin and 'If You
're into it I'm Out of it' by Christoph de Babalon; half nu jazz chill dnb the rest almost breakcore-ish, aggressive and loud. Overall I enjoyed both styles but the main issue that I have with this is practically the same as the others: IT'S WAY TOO LONG. There's quite a lot of filler that don't really do much for me and go on for more than I would like. If this was ... read more
